STEM Biomedical welcomes three new members to its board of directors

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada ― ​Three new members joined the STEM Biomedical board of directors in 2019, bringing the total number of board members to six. The three new members include Anetta Ille, Ioana Balta, and Filip Lup. We look forward to the contributions of Anetta, Ioana, and Filip in helping STEM Biomedical achieve its goal of finding cures for chronic diseases through the advancement of biomedical sciences. All members of the STEM Biomedical board of directors serve on a voluntary basis without monetary compensation. ​

Anetta Ille graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BSc degree in biomedical sciences. Throughout her time at UW, Anetta developed a passion for biomedical research, and engaged in such research at the UW School of Pharmacy. She is currently conducting a research project harnessing the use of viral phage as a potential cancer therapeutic. Anetta believes that increasing research opportunities can greatly enhance treatment options and produce new cures.

Ioana Balta is an Accounting and Financial Management graduate student at the University of Waterloo. Through her work as a research assistant as well as various other academic and work placements, Ioana has developed a contemporary and practical skill-set in accounting and finance. Her voluntary efforts are an invaluable asset to STEM Biomedical.

Filip Lup completed his degree in Economics and Financial Management at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at WLU. He has broad experience in the financial sector through an array of diverse internship positions. Filip aims to continue the growth and optimize the financial performance of STEM Biomedical. His work will advance our research capacity and accelerate our progress towards discovering new cures.


STEM Biomedical is a federally-registered Canadian non-profit dedicated to the advancement of biomedical research through the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
