Successful Completion of the 2021 Run for Hope with over $20,000 raised for biomedical research and childhood cancer
KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada ― Earlier this year we announced the 2021 virtual Run for Hope, which took place in mid-May. The purpose of the run was to raise funds for biomedical research and childhood cancer. Exceeding our expectations, the run raised $20,037. The proceeds from this event are shared equally between STEM Biomedical and Childhood Cancer Canada - a charity whose mission is to create victories for Canadian children with cancer through investment in national, collaborative, lifesaving research, empowering education and community programs.
The initial outlook for the run was gloomy due to the negative economic impact of Covid-19. Despite this, the run received an extraordinary level of support.Runners joined from multiple provinces across Canada, from British Columbia on the west coast to Nova Scotia on the east coast.
A number of Canadian businesses, both large and small, came together to sponsor the run and help us exceed our fundraising goals. These businesses include: Farm Mutual Re, Linamar, Trudell Medical, Royal Distributing, FaithLife Financial, Heartland Farm Mutual, Tepperman’s, Sport Chek, The Underdog Dance Corp, Traces Screen Printing, Realhome Designs, and Neptune Auto Care. Without the support and generosity from both individuals and businesses, the 2021 Run for Hope would not have been possible.
We’d like to thank Canadian Olympian Erin Teschuk and CFL football player Ronnie Pfeffer joined the run in support of the cause. Both Teschuk and Pfeffer played important roles in raising awareness about the run and attracting support.
The story behind the run was also published by the University of Waterloo in an alumni impact article. With all of the positive sentiment surrounding the Run for Hope this year, we hope to repeat the event in 2022. We’re optimistic that next year’s run will raise even more funds. We are very grateful for the support we’ve received so far.
