STEM Biomedical’s annual Run for Hope raises over $15,000 for biomedical research and childhood cancer

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada ― Runners from coast to coast participated in STEM Biomedical’s virtual Run for Hope. Together, corporate sponsors, runners, and individual donors collectively contributed a total of $15,630 for the advancement of biomedical research and childhood cancer. The fundraiser event was planned by the STEM biomedical team together with the help of Canadian Olympian Erin Teschuk as run director. Proceeds from the event were shared equally between STEM Biomedical and Childhood Cancer Canada.

"The run for Hope has been a great event to raise money for childhood cancer care and to support biomedical research. The race brings the community together to get active and support a great cause. Events such as these are crucial to help fund new and innovative research” said track-and-field Olympian Erin Teschuk.

Head director and founder of STEM Biomedical, Alex Ille, added “this year's Run for Hope was another fundraising success. It's encouraging to see individuals and corporations coming together for a great cause. This support allows us to continue our efforts in advancing biomedical research to combat life-threatening diseases like childhood cancer." This was the second time the event took place, following the first Run for Hope which kicked off in 2021.

A number of Canadian businesses, both large and small, came together to sponsor the run and help make the event a success. These businesses include: Farm Mutual Re, Linamar, Trudell Medical, Atlantic Packaging ProductsRoyal Distributing, FaithLife Financial, Tepperman’s, The Farley Group, Pizza Pizza, MTE Consultants, and Real Home Designs. Without the support and generosity from both individuals and businesses, the 2022 Run for Hope would not have been possible.

The funds raised will help both STEM Biomedical and Childhood Cancer Canada continue their various programs. For STEM Biomedical, this means advancing research in the biomedical sciences, with current work focused on molecular simulations of biological systems. The mission of Childhood Cancer Canada is to create victories for Canadian children with cancer through investment in national, collaborative, lifesaving research, empowering education and community programs.

STEM Biomedical is a federally-registered Canadian non-profit dedicated to the advancement of biomedical research through the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
