The 2025 Run for Hope supports STEM Scholarships for childhood cancer survivors
KITCHENER-WATERLOO, Ontario, Canada ― Runners from across Canada came together for the 2025 Run for Hope, joining efforts in a shared mission to raise funds for an important cause. As in previous years, the run was co-organized by Childhood Cancer Canada and STEM Biomedical. Thanks to the generosity of our corporate sponsors, the commitment of individual donors, and the runners who dedicated their time and energy, the event successfully raised $13,500.
This fundraising has made it possible to carry forward the STEM Scholarship, a joint initiative established by Childhood Cancer Canada and STEM Biomedical. The STEM Scholarship aims to provide support to childhood cancer survivors pursuing an education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In addition to the three $5,000 STEM scholarships awarded in 2024, three more $5,000 STEM scholarships were awarded in 2025.
Recipients of the 2025 STEM Scholarship include Steven Kendell, Milind Kumar, and Rasmiah Islam. Steven Kendell is pursuing a Master of Science degree in mathematics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, and is determined to apply his knowledge in the field of mathematical oncology. Milind Kumar is studying mechanical and management engineering at the University of Waterloo, aspiring to become an engineer and business leader in order to solve challenging problems and make a meaningful impact. Rasmiah Islam is a Life Sciences student at McMaster University in pursuit of her goal to become a pediatric oncologist. Childhood Cancer Canada and STEM Biomedical are proud to support Steven, Milind, and Rasmiah in their endeavors through the STEM Scholarship.
The 2025 Run for Hope was made possible through the generosity of a number of Canadian businesses, including: Linamar, Farm Mutual Reinsurance, MNP, Gore Mutual Insurance, Trudell Medical, IMAX, Serenia Life Financial, and The Farley Group.
